Okinawan Shorin Ryu Karate & Kobudo

Sensei Doug Yates has been teaching karate in Xenia Ohio since 1976 and has produced some of the finest martial artist in the World.

At Doug Yates Karate we instruct students in the art of traditional Shorin Ryu Karate and Kobudo. The student will learn respect, discipline and humility. They will develop confidence, coordination and a winning attitude.

Students are also given the opportunity to compete in local, regional, national and global competitions. Members of Doug Yates Karate National Champions Training Center have been bringing home gold and silver medals from around the World for several past decades and will continue to do so into the future. If you are not interested in being a gold medal winner, do not worry, we have many other things to teach you.

Maybe you would be interested in learning the history and techniques of the ancient art of Matsumura Shorin Ryu, or the art of Kobudo (Karate Weapons). You may have an interest in self defense or maybe you just want a good workout for your health. If so, we are ready to teach you.

Master Yates has traveled around Ohio and the United States promoting Martial Arts and training many students in the arts of Shorin Kenpo Karate, Okinawa Shorin Ryu Matsumura Kenpo Karate and Okinawa Matsumura Seito Shorin Ryu Karate.

Master Yates has been instrumental in the success of many of his students in the area of local and regional tournament competition and currently is the President of the Miami Valley Tournament Association.

Master Yates has personally trained under Grand Master Yuichi Kuda (Deceased) and Master Roy Thomason. Master Yates trained under the late Master Sonny Johnson. Upon his passing, Master Yates became the President of the Akari-Ki Karate Kobudo Federation.
